RAINCLOUDS GATHER OVER GLANMIRE - (poem for #AudioMo Day 17)
Rainclouds gather over Glanmire
How long since the last drop fell
and left the soil sodden drunk?
A summer stole by, disguised:
wind and chill,
washed-away dreams of suntan creams and cucumber eyes.
Had I flown abroad, I’d know the pride of my prediction.
Rain poured: lightning striking twice in Glanmire.
Autumn has graced us with a prodigal sun,
a fortnight blessed with drought.
I’ll remember this summer:
tears unshed from an un-warmed heart -
indelible ache, indelible link,
to that place where Pain’s conceived, nurtured and flowers
like its half-sister Love,
mirror image of unrestrained creation.
Rainclouds gather now, the ground has need,
And I of rain to oil my mending spirit.
