We’re a decade into St. Pete’s renaissance. So what lies on the other side of St. Pete’s potential? In our series, St. Pete 2.0, we’re exploring elevating St. Pete to the ‘next level’. We’re asking business and civic leaders for their vision of what it means to realize our potential as a city. We’re exploring what we have to do to get there.

Author Roy Peter Clark joins the St. Pete 2.0 conversation as we examine news in St. Petersburg. With his work at the Tampa Bay Times and the Poynter Institute, Clark has observed and participated in the evolution of the news business.

We run through the fragmentation of the news audience and the recent return to traditional news sources as expectations of quality rise. Clark explains the internet’s major impact on local identity as geographical boundaries dissolve. The move away from the newspaper as the sole source of comprehensive news left local news publications working to meet the changing needs of its base.

We also discuss a couple of theories on how to address the problems of relevance, participation and objectivity.
