OXFAM: People are going days without eating
OXFAM is scaling up assistance to needy populations amid a worsening food security situation.
The British Charity group estimates that nearly 7.1 million people, representing 63% of the country’s population will be food insecure between May and September, with Pibor and Nyiror in the Jonglei area, cited as the most fragile spots.
Tim Beirley, spokesperson and Campaigns Manger at Oxfam says hunger is affecting the whole country with some households going days without food.
Beirley says the organization has opened up nutrition centers and is providing clean and safe water to populations and is challenging the international community to ‘step up’ support.
The latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report will be released mid-next month to establish the real impact of the hunger across the country.
