A montage of BBC World Service programmes (1 of 3) from around 1980. This was a time when the programme schedule was less news-based than it is these days with a varied diet of news, sport, music, drama, comedy and arts. Lillibullero was played up to the news and Big Ben rang on the quarter or half-hour. The news was read at a steady clear pace, programme announcements full of pauses, partly to allow different frequencies and languages to join or leave the service.
