Youth demand enactment of youth development policy
A youth activist says the lack of a national youth development policy is crippling the development and empowerment of young people in South Sudan.
Michael Wani, Executive Director of the OKAY Foundation - local NGO, says the policy has been sitting in Parliament since 2012 and is concerned that the delay is holding the youth back.
“We cannot participate in regional or international summits because we do not have a constitutional definition of a youth.,” Wani says.
An eight-member committee was established last week to lobby Parliament for its enactment.
Wani says the policy is needed to define the age bracket of a youth and guide operations of youth-related bodies and associations.
