Kiir call for return of Riek Machar is a ‘non-starter,’ says SPLM-IO

The SPLM-IO is hesitant about a call from President Salva Kiir for SPLM-IO Chairman Riek Machar to return home. 

President Kiir during the recent National Liberation Council meeting in Juba called on Machar to come back to Juba within 45 days for the reunification of the ruling party.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Miraya, a top member of the SPLM-IO, Oyet Nathaniel Pierino, described the call as a ‘non-starter’ and said focus should be put on ending the conflict through the IGAD-led negotiation process rather than party reunification.
