“Release 4 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu, or face consequences” – that was the ultimatum the Supreme Court issued to the Karnataka government. In a recent development, the Supreme Court has asked Karnataka to give 4 thousand million cubic feet (4 TMC) of water to Tamil Nadu.
In its verdict on February 16, the apex court had marginally cut Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery water and had allotted it to Karnataka on account of depleting ground water reserves in the state and acute shortage of water for drinking and domestic purposes in the capital city of Bengaluru.
