KFM - launch

KFM was one of the so called ‘incremental’ local stations, as they were ‘incremental’ to the tier of ‘heritage’ stations. It was envisaged they would carve out a different audience either by virtue of their localism or their format. KFM was also one of a number of such stations which were reformed ‘pirates’, securing a licence to broadcast legally. It began broadcasting to Stockport on 17th February 1990. KFM became Signal Radio and then Imagine FM .
