WMAL Interview - MAX EDEN - 01.30.18
INTERVIEW _ MAX EDEN - Senior Fellow, Manhattan Institute – discussed DC schools audit highlighting corruption in the attendance and graduation of DC students.
• Books Cooked at DC Schools: Will Star Chancellor Answer?
• That one-third of DCPS students graduated last year despite attendance issues is likely to raise a lot of questions about former chancellor Kaya Henderson’s tenure, since current chancellor Antwan Wilson only started in Feb. 2017.
• Audit: More than a third of DC Public Schools students failed to meet graduation requirements. More than a third of the D.C. Public Schools class of 2017 graduated high school against the district’s grading and attendance policies, according to a report released Monday by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education. The investigation by consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal found attendance policies were rarely followed and credit recovery programs, which allow students to retake courses they’ve failed, were misused at most DCPS high schools. Some students were allowed to pass courses even though they missed a majority of the class.
