"The Indian". That's how Lord Kilclooney described the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in a controversial tweet last night. The former deputy leader of the Ulster Unionist Party - who's now a crossbench peer - later withdrew the comment saying that he used it as "shorthand" and added that he is in "no way racist". There was a storm of protest from politicians and commentators. The Alliance Party's Stephen Farry said it was racism. And the former Victims Commissioner Patricia McBride has reported his comment to the House of Lords Commissioner for Standards. Stephen got the views of commentators Malachi O'Doherty and Lata Sharma.
