Veteran unionist Lord Kilclooney accused of being racist after describing Taoiseach Leo Varadkar as "the Indian"

"The Indian". That's how Lord Kilclooney described the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in a controversial tweet last night. The former deputy leader of the Ulster Unionist Party - who's now a crossbench peer - later withdrew the comment saying that he used it as "shorthand" and added that he is in "no way racist". There was a storm of protest from politicians and commentators. The Alliance Party's Stephen Farry said it was racism.
