FVP Taban Deng Gai's statement at UN High-Level humanitarian event on South Sudan
First Vice President Taban Deng Gai has told a High-Level humanitarian event at the UN General Assembly in New York that “war is not an option” and reiterated the government’s commitment to ending the conflict.
The First Vice President said the government stands by its pledge to guarantee safe and unhindered humanitarian access, and further noted that it would ‘take time to build peace.’
Taban Deng Gai said the national dialogue is making ‘steady progress’ as a complementary peace initiative, and asked the international community to give their support. He also acknowledged concerns from the participants of the meeting about the prevailing insecurity, referring to the country as a ‘hostile place.’
