#UK Minister: “No amount of help is enough unless there is a real desire from political leaders to create peace”

The #UK Minister for International Development, Rory Stewart is re-echoing a call for the government and the armed opposition to seek a political solution to end the over three years of conflict.

Rory Steward also minister for Africa Affairs in the British government was in #SouthSudan for an official visit to assess the humanitarian situation and progress in the peace process.

Speaking to Radio Miraya before his departure, Mr Stewart said he remains “very worried” about South Sudan, adding that he has not yet seen any “positive directions” which are likely to result in South Sudan embarking on a journey towards peace.

As part of his trip, the UK Minister visited Malakal for an on-ground assessment. He described the overall situation as “tragic and disturbing.”

“This has been truly tragic and one of the most disturbing situations I have seen in the world,” he remarked.
