Statement by the #SouthSudan Permanent Representative to the #UN Akuie Bona Malual

South Sudan was up for discussion at the UN Security Council on Thursday.

The 15 Council Members heard statements from the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations - El Ghassim Wane, the UN Special Envoy to South Sudan and Sudan - Nicholas Haysom and the South Sudan Permanent Representative to the United Nations - Ambassador Akuie Bona Malual.

Ambassador Malual focused his brief on the humanitarian situation - saying the government employs a ‘free and unhindered access’ for humanitarian organizations operating within government regulations.

He also spoke about the recent disagreements with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) over the deployment of the Regional Protection Force sanction by the UN Security Council that led to a grounding of UNMISS aircraft.
