Steve Wright on Breakfast - Radio 1
Steve Wright is one of the most enduring of the 'second generation' of Radio 1 presenters.
From a helper at Radio 2; through early days at Radio 210 in Reading; through Luxembourg; and then to Radio 1 where he graduated to afternoons in 1981. On that huge vehicle, a generation grew to enjoy him and his characters.
A move to breakfast followed; and I may not be the only one who felt even before the outset that maybe it was not quite 'him'. Most presenters have a daypart which feels right; and many careers have been stymied by the wrong move.
He left Radio One after 15 months of earlies for a spell in commercial radio, before being part of the rejuvenation of BBC Radio 2, where his old listeners caught up where they left off. And lived happily ever after.
