Loops, whistles and chants (Milan)
Milan protest reimagined by David Henckel.
"The slow build up of the original file inspired me and I particularly drawn to the whistles, chants and shouts.
I played around with a few loops and found a section that felt like African chanting, which became one of the main elements of the track.
I used a fair bit of reverb and some space echo to move the sounds of protest in and out of focus with the idea of multiple protests overlapping each other.
Some of the sounds I ended up with after a bit of processing felt metallic and like money clinking. I also moved randomly and quickly between duplicates of the same clip with slightly different timings.
I also tried to go for the sense of a dance or tribal drum submerged in the distance.
Towards the end I wanted the sounds to start colliding and become more chaotic as though the protest was surrounding you. The original file sits within this chaos.
I used Ableton to re-edit and mix the track."
