Popular protest in Berlin
Berlin protest reimagined by Clara Hollomey.
"The number of participants is crucial to the credibility of any political protest. In most European countries, the causes for such protests have changed considerably over the last century. The need for a change in financial legislation is arguably more difficult to communicate and has less perceived direct impact on most people than, for example, the need for abolishing child labour. In order to motivate people to still express their opinions publicly, the organisers of demonstrations had to adjust.
This piece is a reflection on public protest in the context of popular culture. Formally, it is structured similarly to a pop song, it has verses, a bridge and a refrain and is sonically grounded on drums and a bassline."
