Howard Stern moves to Sirius
You probably would not want to manage the chap who describes himself as ‘radio’s biggest star’.
Howard Stern moved around the States, from station to station, being fired from WNBC in New York. At WXRK, a twenty year spell was, to say the least, controversial. As the show was syndicated, even more complaints were made, earning him the title ’most fined radio presenter’, after the American regulator, the FCC, took frequent exception to his performances.
Maybe the term ‘shock-jock; was made for him.
In 2006, he waved farewell to terrestrial radio ‘at the height of my career’, in favour of the less- regulated satellite radio, upon signing a five year deal with Sirius.
It's an interesting case. In Britain, there are few presenters who have managed to take their audience immediately with them from one station brand to another; let alone from one platform to another.
Here, hear Howard talk about that transfer.
