Bureau of Land management investigators say a truck towing a trailer on a highway and throwing sparks from the back of the vehicle was responsible for the Cold Springs Fire. The fire is now 100 percent contained, but burned 1523 acres or more than two square miles before being controlled. A firefighter noticed the truck and says the sparks led to at least seven fire over about a half-mile . . . presumably along 395. Officials have, so far, been unable to identify the driver of the vehicle and are asking for people who tried to warn the driver of the situation to contact them.
Paiute tribal officials say voluntary evacuations for Sutcliffe and beaches of Pyramid Lake caused by the Long Valley fire have been lifted. The fire has grown to more than 63-thousand acres, or more than 98 square miles. The Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center says the fire is 24 percent contained with 533 people working on it.
