While Democrats have long called for a paid leave policy, Republicans have been reluctant until recently. The Trump Administration became the first Republican administration to include paid parental leave in their budget, thus indicating a bipartisan desire for change. At a cost of $20 billion over ten years, the plan provides six weeks of paid leave after the birth or adoption of a child.
