Pete Murray - Medley

Episode 281,   Dec 21, 2011, 09:36 PM

Pete Murray. The sound of Radio 2 for a generation, back in those cardigan days when shows had sig tunes; and his ding-dong ‘Open House ‘ theme was instantly recognised.

Pete first joined Radio Luxembourg in the late ‘40s, before joining the BBC Light Programme in 58. He became one of the first presenters on Radio 1, posing for that now-famous photo on the steps of All Souls Church prior to launch. Radio 2 was his home until 1981. After leaving the BBC in 1983, he became a familiar voice on the LBC line-up, where he broadcast until 2002.

Pete can lay claim to having been a major figure in UK broadcasting for two radio generations. He was voted 'BBC Radio Personality twice in the seventies and received the OBE.
