UNMISS SRSG : There must be a 'coherent' and 'unified' regional approach on solving South Sudan conflict
The Head of the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, David Shearer, is calling for a coherent and unified regional approach on solving the conflict in South Sudan.
David Shearer, who is also the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, was addressing a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York on Wednesday via video link from the South Sudanese capital, Juba.
Mr Shearer welcomed efforts by countries in the region to step up their engagement on South Sudan, adding that it “remains critical, a coherent and unified regional approach on South Sudan is forthcoming.”
The Special Representative also updated the Council members on the security situation in the country and the deployment of a Regional Protection Force to the country.
