Labour election pledge to raise income tax for anyone earning over £80K - is taxing the rich the way forward?

Is taxing the rich the way forward? The Labour Party is pledging no income tax increases for anyone under £80,000. The Lib Dems however want a general 1p income tax increase to boost health service funding. The Tories have pledged not to increase VAT but have not ruled out other tax rises.
