John Arlott - Cricket
John Arlott. The voice of Summer, purring away to create the soundtrack to a great English Summer’s day through his distinctive cricket commentary.
He joined the BBC in 1946 as the Overseas Literary producer, before being invited to commentate on the warm-up games of India's tour of England. Thus began his 34 year career choosing just the right words to turn the measured pace of Willow on leather into rich poetry. By his retirement in 1980, he’d become the longest serving test match commentator
John died in 1991.
