Gary Davies - Radio One

Episode 258,   Dec 11, 2011, 08:34 PM

Another voice from the end of the bright red and blue Radio 1 era. Gary Davies was a 1979 recruit at his hometown’s Piccadilly Radio, before joining Radio 1 in 1982.

In two years, he rose to the lunchtime show: ‘Gary’s Bit In The Middle’ . A generation smuggled small AM transistor radios into school so they might hear recall Gary deliver the new Top 20. 'Young, Free and Single' Gary boasted a popular 'Wooh! Gary Davies' jingle and played the ‘Nation’s heart-throb’ role. He moved from lunchtimes to weekends, leaving the Corporation in 1993.

Gary went on to a spell at Virgin Radio (now Absolute), then Real and Century (now Real). He’s now formed Upfront, a branded content company.
