DUP Cllr accused of sexism over remarks about council Chief Executive - Fionola Meredith and @NiamhHoran debate

A row has erupted after a DUP Cllr made what some have called 'sexist remarks' at last night's Belfast City Council meeting. Cllr Graham Craig remarked on the 'pleasure' of seeing the Council's Chief Exec 'whizzing past him' on her bike in the mornings. He said it 'does quicken up one's step slightly'. So was it a harmless comment, or just another example of the every day sexism that women face in the workplace? When the Nolan Show contacted Cllr Craig this morning, he said that he's spoken to the Chief Executive privately and has no further comment to make. We've asked the DUP for a statement. They said "The remarks in question were not appropriate." Cllr Craig has spoken to the Chief Executive privately and the DUP Group Leader on the Council has also apologised to the Chief Executive for the comments. Stephen got the views of journalist Fionola Meredith and commentator Niamh Horan.
