Talking records in Rough Trade East

Conversations about records and music in Rough Trade East, one of London's biggest record stores. Recorded by Cities and Memory.

A few moments in the Rough Trade shop. One guy picks up an ambient record made by a Swiss composer in the 1970s. 'I wonder what this sounds like?' he ponders. His friend replies 'looks a bit New Age. Look at that logo!' The third friend pulls out a 12" that looks like a 60s science book for children but is actually a minimal techno record from Slovenia released only last week. 'You'll need some pills for that one!' they laugh. She raises her eyebrows. They point at a French singer's hair on the cover of an 80s compilation. The Rough Trade phone rings and circulates for a few seconds, perhaps a little longer than they wanted. Time, frozen in the perception of a new record cover, seems to repeat itself.
