UNFPA World Population Report sheds light on 10 - Years - Old Girls

The United Nations Population Fund – UNFPA, warns that HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy and child labor are undermining girls’ health, rights and opportunities, as the agency launches the State of World Population 2016 in #SouthSudan.

The report entitled "10: How our future depends on a girl at this decisive age, states that Practices that harm girls and violate their human rights--starting at age 10--prevent them from realizing their full potential as adults and from contributing to the economic and social progress of their communities and nations.

UNFPA cautions that without the contributions of the 10 year old girls, the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and its accompanying 17 Sustainable Development Goals may never be achieved.

Dr Wilfred Ochan, UNFPA deputy country representative spoke to Miraya Breakfast show. He said that the challenge now is to scale up these interventions to reach more girls, especially the poorest and most vulnerable, by age 10.
