Internally Displaced Persons living in the Protection of Civilians site located adjacent to the UNMISS base in Wau are casting their votes to elect their community leaders.

The exercise is open to IDPs above the age of 18 years, and has been organized by the International Organization for Migration and other humanitarian actors to give the displaced persons a say in their leadership.

Ten blocks within the PoC have fielded candidates for the four the day exercise which will see election of community, youth and women, representatives and the vulnerable.

Ashley McLaughlin is the IOM communications officer - she tells us the significance of the elections.
