Adrift in Djupivogur

Djupivogur art installation, reimagined by Flora Henderson.

"Adrift in Djúpivogur – for Djúpivogur Oil Drum Sound Art Installation, shakuhachi, cello and piano. Music is “humanly organised sound” (John Blacking 1995:56) – and that includes textures, from the rough to the smooth, ­– as well as pitches, rhythm, and the Japanese musical aesthetic of ‘ma’ (the space-between-the-sounds). For this work, the sounds of the sound art installation presented a whole textural sonic event, which I wanted to maintain but through the introduction of additional musical textures and pitches to create changing tensions, resolutions and spaces. I composed this using Logic 9 on a Mac. All the instruments were performed and recorded by me."
