The United Nations Mission in South Sudan, UNMISS has rejected accusations made by the SPLA of UNMISS supposedly fostering criminal activity and harbouring armed elements in the UN protection of civilians site in Juba.

The most recent accusations were made after a shooting incident on Friday 16 September at a check point, North West of the PoC site in Jebel.

UNMISS has released a statement saying it received a call from the Police officers manning the check point that they were under attack, and deployed a Quick Reaction Force to prevent the perpetrators from entering the PoC site.

In the early hours of the morning on Friday 9 September, a similar incident occurred and again, following notification by the SSNPS, UNMISS responded.

Acting UNMISS spokesperson Shantal Persaud says the UN Mission maintains a strict no-arms policy in all its protection sites. She explains what happened in the two incidents.
