EDUCATINGHER08 - HBCU V PWI Experience College
It's Day 8 of the EducatingHer podcast series. Welcome back to another edition of EducatingHer. Alright girlienation. EducatingHer means myself and invited guests are educating one female college freshman at a time with college life must haves. What makes me different. It’s the stuff no one tells you or reinforces how you become a successful student. Think of it as the after-the-fact stuff you wish someone told you during your first year of college or maybe you didn’t listen and this is a refresher or make up class. To some of you out there going to a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) was a no brainer and to others your north star for undergrad was a PWI for different reasons ranging from being at the top of the class, seeking an Ivy league education, pressure from parents to be their own bragging rights, or a desire to have additional exposure beyond your community. That’s fair. Whether you choose the Predominantly White Institute (PWI) or HBCU route there are so many teachable moments during this series. Outside of the brotherhood and sisterhood experience, HBCUs produce the highest number of black graduates come from HBCUs. 5 Things your gonna hear in this episode you’re going to hear from both students and HBCU college professors: PWI high school to HBCU Urban community to PWI Differences between PWI and HBCU schools The sisterhood of a HBCU Nina’s Teachable Moments KEEP IT 100 GIRLBOOTCAMP Keep it 100 Camp will feature the following: - Get it Girl Initiative: The keep it 100 toolbox - First Timer: There's a difference between theory and practice.
