Kenyan Female Peacekeepers take over helm to protect women and children in Wau

Female peacekeepers of the Kenya Battalion – KENBATT have taken on the responsibility of escorting women and children as they run domestic errands.

The UNMISS Peacekeepers are offering protection to the ladies to collect food, firewood and other basic supplies within a two kilometer distance outside the UN protected area, located adjacent to the UNMISS base in Bentiu.

Capt Grace Ajie, the legal officer of the Kenyan battalion explains why a decision has been taken to have an all An all-female platoon team provide armed escort to the IDP women and children as they move to collect firewood, fetch water and go to their gardens.
