Folon's statue in Knokke returned to its former glory
In 1997, Belgian artist Folon wanted to "leave something" to Knokke and his idea was a statue of his Everyman wearing his hat sitting on the sand. He also wanted the sculpture to be well below the high water mark so that it would be invaded by water periodically. Unfortunately, the borough's sand replacement program for the beaches buried the sculpture and in 2014 it was removed for restoration. It is now back and ready to be submerged with each tide. Count Leopold Lippens, Burgomaster of Knokke-Heist, tells us about the unexpected effects the statue had on city services. www.fondationfolon.be http://www.myknokke-heist.be/en
