LISTEN: A Derry man claims he was choked at a Belfast bus station
A Derry man has claimed he was choked at Europa bus station in Belfast on Monday evening by a security guard. He alleges he was unconscious for a time. 23-year-old Kevin McColgan says he made an offensive comment about one of the G4S members of staff to his girlfriend and that the guard overheard him. He claims he was restrained shortly after that by two guards and says he never, at any stage, presented himself as a violent person. Kevin McColgan was arrested on suspicion of assault and released pending further enquiries. In a statement G4S said it takes allegations of improper conduct very seriously. It said CCTV footage appeared to show that after a prolonged period of aggressive behaviour towards Translink inspectors and its team, a man was restrained. It said that shortly afterwards, police officers assessed the situation and detained the man after continued aggression towards staff, the police and an ambulance crew." Translink also say they are aware of the incident and that they have viewed CCTV footage.
