Controversy after woman convicted for inducing miscarriage using drugs bought online

Once again, abortion law in Northern Ireland is back in the spotlight. A young woman who bought drugs on the internet to induce a miscarriage has been given a suspended prison sentence at a Belfast Court. A defence lawyer told the judge if the case had happened anywhere else in the UK, the woman would not have been prosecuted. She received a three-month jail term, which was suspended for two years. Anti-abortion group Precious Life has branded the sentence as 'lenient'. But campaigners for abortion law reform have condemned the prosecution.
