Police should change their approach to allegations of sex abuse and not automatically believe the complainant - that's what the Met Police commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has suggested. It follows criticism of the Met's handling of high-profile investigations into claims of historical sex abuse.

Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has asked Former High Court judge Sir Richard Henriques (PRON: ON - RIQ) to make recommendations about whether there are ways to improve procedures.

The Operation Midland inquiry into a 1970s paedophile ring is among the investigations that will be examined.

Sir Bernard said: "We are not afraid to learn how we can do these things better.
