Tough new recycling rules – good idea or a load of rubbish? #bbcnolan

A local council is laying down the law with strict new recycling rules. Ards and North Down Borough Council is set to introduce a complete ban on any food waste in black bins. A report on the front page of this week's County Down Spectator says that "in the coming months council staff will be monitoring local householders' bins". Anyone breaking the rules will see their bin not emptied and a warning stick placed on them instead.

What do you think at home, is this a good idea to encourage even more recycling or is it a load of rubbish?

A council spokesperson said -

Ards and North Down Borough Council is changing the way that it collects food waste across the borough. Food waste must now be disposed of in the green or brown bins and not the grey bin. This action by all residents will help to significantly reduce landfill costs. Information leaflets and liners are currently being delivered to all households to make the process as easy as possible. Once the scheme is established residents who are repeatedly found to put food waste in their grey bin will find that their grey bin will not be collected until the food waste is removed.
