A coach bringing school children home to Skye from a ski trip abroad was caught up in an incident between police and migrants near Calais.

The 35 pupils from Portree High School and seven adults were travelling through France as they made their way back from Italy in the early hours of Sunday.

An outer window of double glazing on the coach was broken in the incident, Highland Council said.

It was reported to police and border control officials at Calais and the coach was deemed safe to continue its journey.

Passengers on the coach were asleep at the time and they have all since returned home safely.
