Liverpool Life podcast, week ending November 6, 2015
The week began with a desperately sad and moving event: the funeral of PC David (Dave) Phillips – the Merseyside police constable who was killed in the line of duty last month. Several thousand mourners – including police officers from all over England and Wales – attended the service at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral. Live TV coverage was beamed across the country – and our reporters were there… On a happier note, we’ve also been a bit further afield than usual this week, even to 'that London'! This week's podcast presenter, James Knowles, was invited into the sanctum of the Inner Temple law buildings, no less, to hear about exciting plans about LJMU. Talking of notes…the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra has teamed up with Cast (or should that be the other way round?!), for a 20th anniversary gig. We were invited to the rehearsals in Everton and have an exclusive preview of this combination of pop and classical musicians and cultures. Switching to a different art... and young film-makers in the area had their own set of awards this week. Our Steven Carson was on the red carpet (but still managed to conduct some interviews!). Plus, we’ve discussion on health and medical issues for mind and body, including a report from walk in the city aimed at giving young men confidence in saying "I need to talk", plus your thoughts on NHS cut-backs for couples desperate to have a baby. Also, we find out which local schools have been sent home with a 'must do better' report card. There's a local sports’ round-up and what’s on in the city, including details of the Remembrance Sunday events. It's your favourite download of the week – all inside.
