UNMISS calls for immediate release of equipment and cargo held by SPLA/M-IO
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) is calling for the immediate release of equipment and cargo that were intercepted by forces of the SPLA in the opposition last Monday.
The items including 55,000 liters of fuel, communications equipment and weapons were taken in a hostage situation in Kaka, Upper Nile state.
The convoy equipment, comprising a total of three vessels including the barge, have been returned and were transported to Melut, in Upper Nile.
31 peacekeepers and contractors who were aboard the vessel were also released.
The barge loaded with supplies was intercepted on 26 October as it transported supplies from Malakal to the UNMISS base in Renk.
