Members of the United Nations Family in South Sudan took part in a flag raising ceremony on the 70th anniversary of the United Nations Day.

Both flags of South Sudan and the United Nations were raised at exactly 12:34pm as the anthems of South Sudan and the United Nations played in the background.

The event taking place inside the UN House in Juba is a curtain-raiser for the main birthday festivities which take place on Saturday at Rejaf East, 70 years since the founding of the United Nations in San Francisco.

The SRSG in South Sudan, Ellen Margrethe Løj, delivered this statement emphasizing the need for Peace in South Sudan.

" I hope that in many years time, we can look back on to 2015 and say this was the last year of conflict in South Sudan."
