Threats and looting Push ICRC out of Leer county

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has withdrawn all its staff from a humanitarian compound in Leer County, Unity State following an attack on the aid workers there.

Yamila Castro, of the ICRC in Juba, said a group of well-organized armed men entered the ICRC compound in Leer over the weekend and stole equipment, medical supplies and money. Two ICRC vehicles were also taken and ten ICRC workers, were threatened.

Yamila said the agency is concerned about the vulnerable population who are left with no access to humanitarian aid and who are at risk of being caught up in the fighting.
