‘It’s not an amnesty’ – fresh controversy over proposals for dealing with the past #BBCNolan

Dealing with N Ireland's troubled past remains a huge challenge for our politicians - and for society as a whole. The plans being brought forward were spelt out in a policy paper launched this week by Secretary of State Theresa Villiers. They include an Independent Commission on Information Retrieval. It would allow victims' families to obtain information about the Troubles-related deaths of their loved ones. Ex-paramilitaries who co-operate with the process would not be prosecuted over any information they provide to this Commission. Theresa Villiers has strongly denied this amounts to any kind of amnesty
