It's been another day of high drama at Volkswagen's headquarters in Wolfsberg, northern Germany.

The revelation that the world's biggest carmaker has been caught cheating on its diesel car emissions tests has now claimed the job of VW's chief executive.

In his resignation statement Martin Winterkorn said Volkswagen needed a fresh start.
