Overgrown grass verge hampers firefighters efforts to save waste plant, are the DRD responsible? PART 1

Imagine watching your business go up in smoke while firefighters are scrambling to find a water hydrant in an overgrown grass verge to extinguish the flames. That's what happened to Tommy McGlinchy who owns the Brickkiln waste and recycling plant outside Derry last week. He is full of praise for the fire crews but he is very angry with the stormont department responsible for cutting the grass.

He says it took crews more than an hour to find the hydrant and water tankers had to be brought in from Dungiven. In the end Tommy says he had to bring in a digger to clear the verge to find the hydrant.

He has been left with a repair bill of up to four hundred thousand pounds and he's convinced had the grass verge been cut then the outcome could have been very different. #BBCNolan
