The proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership trade deal between the US and EU received a major setback in the European Parliament today.

Members of the Parliament had been due to vote on the powers to be given to negotiators.

But the vote was postponed at the eleventh hour, amid a major split within the parliament's second biggest grouping, the Socialists and Democrats.

Many within the group are nervous about the controversial proposal for an investor dispute resolution mechanism that would allow companies to sue governments.
