14. Amstel Gold for the rainbow jersey
April 21 | The latest Telegraph Cycling Podcast looks back on the Amstel Gold Race, the only Dutch Classic on the calendar, won on Sunday by the world champion, Michal Kwiatkowski.
The Pole timed his move to perfection after a late attack by three-time winner Philippe Gilbert was snuffed out. Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe discuss an intriguing tactical battle that also saw Tour de France winner Vincenzo Nibali in much-improved form and on the offensive.
There is also news from the British domestic scene where the country’s leading professional team, NFTO, has unveiled a new sponsor, one of the world’s financial giants, Aberdeen Asset Management.
John Wood is the man behind NFTO and he tells us about his team’s plans to graduate to Pro Continental level with the eventual ambition of becoming a World Tour squad in 2018. We also hear from Steele Von Hoff, the Australian who joined NFTO from Garmin-Sharp, and now hopes to eventually work his way back to the highest level with his new team.
Finally, there are transfer rumours concerning Kwiatkowski and Team Sky’s Peter Kennaugh, with both possibly on the move in 2016.
