12. At the Tour of Flanders

April 9 | The latest Telegraph Cycling Podcast comes from Belgium and one of the biggest Classics of the season, last weekend’s Tour of Flanders.

Richard Moore and Daniel Friebe report from Oudenaarde, where the race was won by Alexander Kristoff as the wheels fell off Geraint Thomas’s challenge. There are interviews with both Kristoff – the first Norwegian winner in the 99th edition of the race – and Thomas, who found himself out-numbered and missing “the extra five percent” he’d had the previous weekend, when the Welshman won the E3 Harelbeke semi-classic.

“I just lacked that punch that I had last week,” said Thomas, who tried to bridge up to the leading duo, Kristoff and Niki Terpstra, on the penultimate climb, the Oude Kwaremont. “I had to have a go because the boys rode all day for me but I just didn’t quite have the legs at the end.”

There are also interviews with Rolf Aldag, technical director of the Etixx-Quick-Step team, and John Degenkolb, the Giant-Alpecin rider who took the sprint for seventh.
