10. John Degenkolb wins Milan-San Remo

March 26 | The latest Telegraph Cycling Podcast looks back on the first Monument of the 2015 season, Milan-San Remo. Sunday's race was won by Germany’s John Degenkolb after Welshman Geraint Thomas’s late, solo attempt to claim his first Classic.

Richard Moore and Daniel Friebe discuss all the talking points, including the criticism that it was a tepid affair lacking in drama. ‘Nonsense!’ says Daniel. The longest Classic on the calendar built steadily towards its traditional finale on the climbs of the Cipressa and Poggio where the all-rounders tried to go clear and the sprinters tried to hang on. It came down to a sprint on the Via Roma but, as ever, the preceding kilometres were packed with intrigue and what-ifs.

The podcast also discusses the latest Lance Armstrong controversy following his invitation by former footballer Geoff Thomas to take part in a charity ride. The controversy arises from the fact that Thomas's ride will be held on the Tour de France route twenty-four hours before the race itself. While Richard and Daniel shrug their shoulders, UCI president Brian Cookson tells us why he is so opposed to the idea.
