English country gardens have for centuries been famous for being walled havens from the noise and bustle of the world.

Now Facebook has plans to extend what the technorati are calling a "walled garden" of its own - in cyberspace.

It's the talk of this year's Facebook developer conference, which has just kicked off in California.

Facebook has plans to become a one stop shop for just about everything you might need on the internet.

Reports suggest the social media giant is in talks with publishers including The New York Times, and BuzzFeed to include their content directly within Facebook pages.

Mike Johnson has been talking about the issue with the American journalist and writer Joshua Benton. He's director of the Nieman Journalism Lab at Harvard University.
